Bear Valley Community Services District Board of Directors approves Dain Hurst as new Bear Valley Police Chief
The CSD Board of Directors has approved a contract naming Dain Hurst as the new Chief of the Bear Valley Police Department.
Chief Hurst is a 35-year law enforcement veteran and spent 16 years with the Los Angeles Police Department SWAT Team. He has been serving the Bear Valley Community since 2019. He joined as an officer, was later promoted to sergeant, and has been serving as the Acting Police Chief since January 2024.
“This place is more than a job to me, it's personal,” said Hurst. “This community is truly unique, full of great people and a strong sense of pride. As Chief, my mission hasn’t changed; I want every resident to feel safe and know they can approach our officers with trust and confidence.”
“We uphold the principles of Constitutional Policing, remain fully compliant with California State Law, and strictly follow the Policies and Procedures of the Bear Valley Police Department. We lead with fairness, demand accountability, and believe strongly in collaboration both within the department and with the community we serve.”
Chief Hurst says his number one priority is recruiting. The police department currently has multiple open positions, and Chief Hurst has been working with General Manager Beverli Marshall and the CSD Board of Directors on new recruiting tactics. The CSD Board also recently created a Police Tax Ad Hoc Committee, which will examine the current needs of the department and make recommendations to the board on a potential per-parcel tax increase to fund law enforcement in Bear Valley.
