Bear Valley CSD Board Directs Staff to Solicit Help From Outside Consultants for Police Tax Study
The Bear Valley CSD Board of Directors has voted in support of bringing in outside assistance to help decide what the future of law enforcement looks like in Bear Valley. In a unanimous vote at the April 10 Regular Board Meeting, the Board directed General Manager Beverli Marshall to solicit quotes from consultants to help determine an acceptable level of law enforcement in our community.
The move follows the Board’s vote in late March to form a Police Tax Study Ad Hoc Committee. The Committee is charged with conducting a financial analysis to determine the tax revenue needed to maintain acceptable levels of law enforcement. However, the Board of Directors has the final say over defining “acceptable levels of law enforcement”. The Board supports bringing in an outside consultant to examine the current level of service compared to industry standards and our community’s needs. The Board has also requested that the consultants include community surveys to help determine the level of service that will be best for Bear Valley.
The CSD will now put out a Request for Proposals for consultants to provide quotes, scopes of service, and timelines needed to gather the requested information. Once those are received, they will go back to the Board of Directors for final approval.
While that work is being done the Ad Hoc Committee will focus on other subjects it has been charged with, including the creation of an oversight and accountability framework for revenue gathered from a tax increase.
