Board of Directors Approves Creation of Ad Hoc Committee for Public Safety Tax Increase Study
In a 3-2 vote, the Board approved the creation of an Ad Hoc Committee for a Public Safety Tax Increase study. The Committee was proposed following the district's Law Enforcement Feasibility Study, and will be tasked with researching options to fund public safety in Bear Valley.
Public Safety in Bear Valley is currently funded by an $80 per year parcel tax paid by residents. However, that tax has not been changed for 30 years and is not sufficient to fund Bear Valley's law enforcement needs. As a result, the CSD has been using money from the General Fund to support the Bear Valley Police Department. By increasing the Public Safety Tax, the CSD could ensure that law enforcement has the funding it needs while freeing up money in the General Fund for other projects, including infrastructure.
The board will now create a full resolution describing the scope of the committee, which will be approved at a future meeting. Once approved, more information will be provided on how residents interested in joining the committee can volunteer.
