The Bear Valley CSD is utilizing a new service to send emergency and community alerts. This switch allows us to improve our service to you by expanding our messaging capabilities to include news like road closures and other non-emergency public service announcements. It also comes at a significantly lower cost than the CodeRED platform.

We believe this service will allow us to keep you informed in the most convenient, reliable, cost-effective way possible.

Our agency will create and publish messages through Nixle. Nixle will then deliver this information instantly through text, email, voice, and web message.

Examples of messages may include wildfire alerts, evacuation notices, road restrictions, and other relevant safety and community information. Emergency alerts are sent by SMS, Voice, and Email, while Community Alerts such as road closures and other public service announcements are sent only to email addresses.

The service is secure, reliable, and easy for our community. You decide what information you want and whether you like it sent to your cell phone, landline, email, or simply over the web.

Please take a moment to register by texting BVSALERTS to 888777 and responding to the confirmation message with your email address.

You can also sign up at www.nixle.com. You can manage your account and choose what messages you'd like to receive and how you want them delivered. Many other agencies in Kern County use Nixle, and your account will allow you to opt into their messages if you'd choose to do so. You can also access their Frequently Asked Questions www.nixle.com/consumer-faqs/

We also ask you to forward this email to 5 of your neighbors or friends in the community, encouraging them to register. Between now and December, we will send any emergency alerts via both CodeRED and Nixle, but the CodeRED contract ends just as winter and road restrictions are beginning.
