-PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE-

I would like to commend two of our BVCSD Water Department team members, Kyle Cummings and Jay Lokey, for outstanding performance, exceptional situational awareness, and preparedness during what could have been a critical incident that occurred on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at approximately 9:46 a.m., when they responded to visible smoke on Dart Dr.

Upon their arrival, they found an active vegetation fire in shrubbery in a resident's front yard. Their swift action in immediately assessing the situation, turning on the incline vacuum trailer, pressurizing the hose that is installed on the trailer and dousing the fire with the water stored in the trailer and fire extinguishers that are secured on our work trucks, saved the fire from spreading any more than it did and potentially causing catastrophic damage.

Your calm demeanor, knowledge of your equipment, and ability to take risks to save others, embody the highest standards of professionalism, compassion, and service that our department strives for.

I, along with the entire District, want to express our gratitude for their heroic efforts. Their dedication to the safety and well-being of our community is truly commendable, and we are fortunate to have you as a member of our department.

Also, thank you to Danny Orellana for the pictures and video of our team members in action.

Respectfully submitted,

Chester Chapman
