Wild Boar Killed By Bear Valley Police Officer
On March 5, 2025, at 2:00 a.m., Officer Jay Stella shot and killed a wild boar in the area of Ridgeview Court. The Bear Valley Police Department had received multiple reports of boars in that area causing significant property damage. Officer Stella, responding to those reports, had been in the area several hours when he spotted the boar he successfully killed.
Bear Valley has received more than 20 reports of wild boars causing damage to properties over the past several weeks, primarily in the area roughly bordered by Saddleback Drive, Fox Ridge Court, Skyline Drive, and Lower Valley Road in the Southwest part of Bear Valley. It’s estimated that they have caused around $15,000 worth of property damage in total.
These wild boars are an invasive species. They cause significant damage as they pass through an area with their feeding, rooting, and trampling behaviors. They can also become aggressive, especially when piglets are present, creating a potential threat to people and pets.

If you see a wild boar, maintain a safe distance. Do not approach the animal. Contact Bear Valley Police Officer Jay Stella at 661-221-2631. We will either attempt to destroy the animal or set traps in the area to capture it. The Bear Valley Police Department is also working with a biologist to employ additional trapping and deterrent methods in our area.
Wild boars are a potential threat to your pets. Make sure you keep your animals leashed or properly restrained when you leave your property. If your animals are outside on your property, make sure they remain in fenced areas. Take a moment to inspect that fencing to confirm there is no damage that would allow a boar to enter.
