Board Approves Proposed Rates for Special Police Tax Measure

The Bear Valley CSD Board of Directors has approved a proposed rate structure for a special police tax measure being considered for the March 2027 election.
The proposed tax would start at $200 annually in the first year, increase to $250 in the second year, and reach $300 in the third year.
The Board opted for a phased-in approach to give residents time to adjust to the new tax.
Revenue from the proposed tax would help fund Bear Valley Police Department operations, including salaries, equipment, and training. It would also significantly reduce the amount of revenue the Police Department receives from the CSD’s General Fund.
If approved by the voters, the proposed tax would be in addition to the existing $80 special police tax adopted in 1997, bringing the total annual tax for police services to $380, or about $32 per month, by the third year.
However, if Measure S on the November ballot repeals the existing $80 special police tax, the proposed rates would increase to $280 in the first year, $330 in the second year, and $380 in the third year to offset the lost revenue.
The Board also directed staff to prepare language for the proposed ballot measure.
The ballot language and proposed tax rates will be reviewed and considered for final at a future Board of Directors meeting.
